September is a strange month for gardening. It’s the month that many of the Autumn flowers reach their peak providing a final flourish of colour before the weather starts to get colder. It’s also the month when it’s time to starting packing away for the winter and also to start preparing for next year.
A little mix of things to do in the garden in September:
Collect and sow seeds from perennials and hardy annuals
Clean the greenhouse and coldframes ready for their winter occupants.
Create a new lawn from seed or turf.
Create compost bins ready for fallen leaves and old plant material you’ll be collecting over the coming months.
Plant Spring flowering bulbs.
